
Under Title 24 Chapter 117, the 11 Vermont Regional Planning Agencies are designed to provide their respective counties with a variety of services. Regional policy officials are not directly elected but are appointed by the selectmen or aldermen of each community.
Regional Planning Agencies have no stable funding or taxing powers, therefore they depend solely on the governments of their membership towns.
Although the chief purpose of the Agencies is to deal with land zoning and use, services often include citizen education, transportation services, resource management, demographic information, and general organization counseling.
Addison County Regional Planning Commission
The Addison County Regional Planning Commission seeks to provide a forum for towns to discuss and resolve mutual concerns, as well as provide assistance in regional planning and be a central agency of planning information. The ACRPC works to update and maintain the County's regional land use resources.
Addison, Bridport, Bristol, Cornwall, Ferrisburgh, Goshen, Leicester, Lincoln, M iddlebury, Monkton, New Haven, Orwell, Panton, Ripton, Salisbury, Shoreham, Starksboro, Vergennes, Waltham, Weybridge, Whiting are all served by the Addison County Regional Planning Commission.
Bennington County Regional Commission
The Bennington County Regional Commission provides legal and public advocacy in economic development, social infrastructure, and natural and environmental resources. The BCRC provides education to the citizenry at large, as well as information about regional demographics to all organizations.
Arlington, Bennington, Dorset, Glastenbury, Landgrove, Manchester,
Manchester Village, North Bennington Village, Old Bennington Village, Peru, Pownal, Rupert, Sandgate, Shaftsbury, Stamford, Sunderland, and Woodford are all served by the Bennington County Regional Comission.
Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission
The Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission addresses regional land use issues, economic development, natural resource issues, and reviews of Act 250 projects. The CVRPC also works to review regional data collection, serving as a U.S. Census Data Center. The Commission also administers grant funds for community projects.
Barre City, Barre Town, Berlin, Cabot, Calais, Duxbury, East Montpelier, Fayston, Marshfield, Middlesex, Montpelier, Moretown, Northfield, Orange, Plainfield, Roxbury, Waitsfield, Warren, Washington, Waterbury, Williamstown, Woodbury, and Worcester are all served by the Central Vermont Regional Planning Commission.
Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission
The Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission works to intelligently plan and use land in its member towns.
Bolton, Buels Gore, Burlington, Charlotte, Colchester, Essex, Essex Junction, Hinesburg, Huntington, Jericho, Milton, Richmond, Shelburne, South Burlington, St. George, Underhill, Westford, Williston, and Winooski are all served by the Chittenden County Regional Planning Commission.
Lamoille County Planning Commission
The Lamoille County Planning Commission ensures the protection of the region's environment and conservation of natural resources, and facilitates sustainable economic development for the benefit of all residents and visitors through a coordinated and cooperative planning process at the local level.
Belvidere, Cambridge, Eden, Elmore, Hyde Park, Hyde Park Village, Jeffersonville, Johnson, Johnson Village, Morristown, Morrisville, Stowe, Waterville, and Wolcott are all served by the Lamoille County Planning Commission.
Northeastern Vermont Development Association
The Northeastern Vermont Development Association assists many different organizations with a wide variety of planning and technical services. The Association administers grants, creates transportation and natural resource plans. The NVDA also works on infrastructure improvements and helps existing businesses grow.
Albany, Barnet, Barton, Beula, Bloomfield, Burke, Brighton, Brownington, Brunswick, Canaan, Charleston, Concord, Coventry, Craftsbury, Danville, Derby, East Haven, Glover, Granby, Greensboro, Groton, Guildhall, Hardwick, Holland, Irasburg, Kirby, Lawrence, Lemington, Lowell, Lunenburg, Lyndon, Maidstone, Morgan, Newark, Newport, Norton, Peacham, Ryegate, Sheffield, St. Johnsbury, Stannard, Sutton, Troy, Walden, Waterford, Westfield, Westmore, Wheelock, and Victory are all served by the Northeastern Vermont Development Association.
Northwest Regional Planning Commission
The Commission provides services to local municipalities, area non-profits and other regional organizations. Projects include coordinating recreation path projects such as the Missisquoi Valley Rail Trail, maintaining the Missisquoi Bay Bridge, assisting with gran preparation and administration and preparing municipal plans for the member towns.
Alburg Town, Alburg Village, Bakersfield, Berkshire, Enosburg Falls, Enosburgh, Fairfax, Fairfield, Fletcher, Franklin, Georgia, Grand Isle, Highgate, Isle la Motte, Montgomery, North Hero, Richford, Sheldon, Swanton Village, South Hero, St. Albans City, St. Albans Town, and
Swanton Town are all served by the Northewest Regional Planning Commission.
Rutland Regional Planning Commission
The Rutland Regional Planning Commission deals with land use, transportation, housing, economic development, and the quality of the environment. The RRPC deals with important community and county issues, encouraging cooperation and logical action.
Benson, Brandon, Castleton, Chittenden, Clarendon, Danby, Fair Haven, Hubbardton, Ira, Killington, Mendon, Middletown Springs
Mount Holly, Mount Tabor, Pawlet, Pittsford, Poultney, Proctor, Rutland City, Rutland Town, Shrewsbury, Sudbury, Tinmouth, Wallingford, Wells, West Haven, and West Rutland are all served by the Rutland Regional Planning Commission.
Southern Windsor Regional Planning Commission
The Southern Windsor Regional Planning Commission acts a resource for local governments, and mediates disputes between member communities. The SWCRPC develops plans, policies and strategies for addressing regional issues.
Andover, Baltimore, Cavendish, Chester, Ludlow, Reading, Springfield, Weathersfield, West Windsor, and Windsor are all served by the Southern Windsor Regional Planning Commission.
Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commision
The Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission provides general community development, conservation, emergency management and land use planning advice to its member towns. The TRORC advocates disaster preparedness, intelligent utility use, and a variety of other methods of efficient living.
Barnard, Bethel, Bradford, Braintree, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Chelsea, Corinth, Fairlee, Granville, Hancock, Hartford, Hartland, Newbury, Norwich, Pittsfield, Plymouth, Pomfret, Randolph, Rochester, Royalton, Sharon, Stockbridge, Strafford, Thetford, Topsham, Tunbridge, Vershire, West Fairlee, Woodstock are all served by the Two Rivers-Ottauquechee Regional Commission.
Windham Regional Commission
The Windham Regional Commission provides citizen education, mapping services, and guidance in inter-governmental activities. A few projects include maintaining the Windham Regional Plan and continuing the Regional Transportation Planning Project in conjunction with the Vermont Agency of Transportation.
Athens, Brattleboro, Brookline, Dover, Dummerston, Grafton, Guilford, Halifax, Jamaica, Londonderry, Marlboro, Newfane, Putney, Readsboro, Rockingham, Somerset, Stratton, Townshend, Vernon, Wardsboro, Westminster, Weston, Whitingham, Wilmington, Windham, and Winhall are all served by the Windham Regional Commission.
